After graduating with honors from one of the top law schools in the country, Jason Luong began his career as a law clerk for one of the most respected U.S. District Court judges in the nation. Jason then worked as an associate, representing clients in high-stakes “bet the company” litigation.
In 2008, Jason left a successful civil practice to accept a position as an assistant district attorney. As a criminal prosecutor, Jason Luong handled and tried a wide range of cases, ranging from misdemeanor DWI and assault family member charges to the most serious felony offenses, including aggravated assault and murder.
As a prosecutor, Jason was included in the “Rising Star“ list for criminal prosecution by the Thomson Reuters Group (Texas Monthly magazine) – one of only two prosecutors in Harris County to be selected for this distinction. Jason served as prosecutor for nearly four years and retired from the Harris County District Attorney’s Office as a Harris County Criminal Court at Law chief prosecutor.

In 2012, Jason started his own criminal defense practice, handling serious criminal cases and criminal appeals, both in state and federal courts. Jason has tried over 50 criminal cases to a jury verdict as either a prosecutor or defense attorney.
In 2018, Jason Luong was elected as the judge of the 185th Criminal District Court of Harris County, Texas. Jason was the FIRST Vietnamese American ever elected to be a judge in a criminal court in the state of Texas and the first Vietnamese American and first Asian American elected to a felony court bench in Harris County. Jason has presided over thousands of felony cases and multiple felony jury trials, including trials for capital murder, solicitation of capital murder, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault.
Jason is also the former presiding judge of Harris County’s Felony Veterans Treatment Court, a specialty court that helps veterans suffering from service-connected PTSD, traumatic brain injury or addiction who face serious felony charges.
